(1) voice vertical guidance into any airport. This helps flying consistent & safer short field VFR approaches into runways with no vertical guidance. Precision is achieved by calibrating the phone GPS to the aircraft altimeter while flying at a known altitude.

(2) a tool to collect actual flight data to create a score.

How does it work in flight?
* Switch Phone on and select flight mode
* Connect Phone audio to headset, adjust audio volume
* Select approach
* Note "Heading TOD" and turn aircraft to that heading. TOD -> T/D -> Top of Descent
* Now "Distance TOD" should decrease
* Descent to "Tgt altitude" with altimeter
* Once aircraft has reached Target altitude for TOD, press "Calibrate"
* Check: Upper left "Center" and Altitude displayed = target altitude = altimeter
* Once passing the TOD turn to the approach course or "Heading Apt"
* Descent with the glide slope
* Voice will announce: "50 up", "Center", "Down 100"
* After landing in hotel etc: Send and delete log, consider connecting via wifi
* You will receive an approach score

The video starts with 3.5 nm to go to the Top of descent point (TOD) on a 235 heading. ATC assigns 2000 ft for the localizer intercept as x-track converges on zero from the left (- sign). About 0.6 nm prior to TOD we intercept the glide slope at 2000ft. While passing 1800 ft on the altimeter calibrate the GPS altitude to the altimeter.

The voice announcement "Center" is displayed in the upper left of the screen. If you watch that spot you can see the the announcements are changing rarely on a stabilized approach. The correction announcement changes later from "Center" to "Down 10" to "Up 10" as we extend flaps fully. During the descent the actual and target altitudes decrease together in sync. At touchdown the GPS shows 525ft with a published TD zone at 517ft is very accurate. The GPS receiver is about 6 ft above the runway.

The approach data is text file called sdcard/GPS_ILS/ILS_data.txt

To add more approaches drop me an e-mail or press the request button on the phone. Additional approaches can be down loaded from "Menu->Download Approaches".

The data stays private but will be analysed to develop algorithms to score the quality of an approach. I hope this becomes a training and scoring tool for us to improve our approaches and get them scored every-time we fly. So pls help with the data collection and press "Send Log" frequently. In return you will receive a score, charts of the approach as well as a KML file to display the approach in google earth.

Edit the file and add your own approaches.

The headers are:
* Approach Tag,
* Latitude,
* Longitude,
* field elev (ft),
* approach heading,
* top of decent elevation (ft)

The default file contains an approach for Courchevel:

The app now asks for the users e-mail address. The address is attached to log files and makes it possible to send comments back. Privacy is ensured. Upload/download of data may cause the app to look frozen.
